 During a special session ostensibly called to take care of pressing school and tax legislation, the Texas State Senate passed a hotly contested bill eliminating local franchise requirements for telcos to enter video markets – instead allowing for a single statewide franchise. The bill has pitted Verizon and SBC against cable operators that are fighting to delay the onslaught of IPTV in any way they can. Read More here

The good news for North American and European equipment vendors: Chinese megavendors have yet to conquer IPTV. The bad news: They're working on it.

The "Big Three" -- which include Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., ZTE Corp. (Shenzhen: 000063 - message board; Hong Kong: 0763) and UTStarcom Inc. (Nasdaq: UTSIE - message board) -- are grabbing market share worldwide in numerous infrastructure product categories and have good prospects for further expanding their reach, according to a new report from Light Reading Insider.
